This video explains the basic use of hydra to find valid FTP username/password pairs. Download Hydra: http://freeworld.thc.org/thc-h... This video is for educational purposes only. Update: You cannot hack web accounts with hydra! This includes myspace, friendster, games, email accounts, etc. Update 2: The dictionary file I'm using here is just an example. A normal one would contain thousands or even millions of words. I will not provide a dictionary file for you to use.. you can find them yourself or even make them with the proper software. 1 year anniversary of making this video, 50k views.

...did you really just try to tell me that there are more programs (ok, "tools") written for linux than there are for windows? I don't like Microsoft any more than the next guy, but Windows has 92% of the operating system market share. Linux has 1%. I never claimed to be a hacker. If you define hacking as decrypting hash functions then yes, I'm a hacker.

I'm using an IP on my local network, not something that's available to the internet.

i have watched the video for more than 5 times, so stfu & ok, my mistake. didnt realise the full capabilities of hydra.

first, you're an idiot since you obviously didn't watch the video. You can crack either the user, password, or BOTH. Second, this works over a network (or the internet). You can't bruteforce that fast over tcp/ip so dictionary attacks are the only option.
mitush92 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
this method has limitations. first,if u dont know the username, u cant begin. secondly, u got to use an external dictionary.
mitush92 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
the real limitation abt an OS is its source code.linux is open source, so there are more TOOLS people have developed!! and r u that "real hacker"?? can u compare flexibility of linux with mac os??
hackerx16 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Fail, A real "hacker" only uses his own tools,

Hey man, great video, the only thing that I can't figure out now is how to use a proxy with this program, the 3 commands it gives in the menu don't seem to work, if you have any idea that would be awsome, I'm running it on windows XP to.
